Bio

Bio & Education

Julie was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago and graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep. In 2009, she graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Julie travelled to complete her Juris Doctor at Florida Coastal School of Law in 2012 and returned to her hometown of Chicago to complete her final semester as a visiting student at The John Marshall Law School.

After graduation, Julie joined a small boutique law firm where she was able to gain invaluable experience by being put in the courtroom on her first day as a practicing attorney and continuing to expand her litigation career everyday thereafter. (This firm was the perfect place to gain the knowledge and expertise Julie needed to start her own firm one day. )

Solo

Solo Practice

In January 2016, Julie decided to become a solo practitioner and focus her practice primarily on family and divorce law. While she devoted herself to her new practice and the clients who depended on her, there was a major curveball around the corner that was about to throw her new law practice plan out of whack.

Multiple Sclerosis, HSCT, & Advocacy

On March 15, 2016, Julie was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. While her doctors told her that it was likely the beginning of the end to her law career, over the next several years, Julie took her diagnosis and instead used it to expand and grow her legal practice. Determined to prove her doctors wrong, Julie transitioned her practice to fit her new diagnosis and the new arenas of the law she now found herself in as both a patient and a lawyer.

Since her diagnosis, Julie has become involved in many efforts to support those with this disease including MS Walks, Slugfest, State Advocacy Day, and various other fundraisers.

Julie was treated for Multiple Sclerosis at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago by Dr. Richard Burt. Julie received a Hematopoietic stem-cell transplant (HSCT) where your own stem cells are used to halt the progression of multiple types of autoimmune diseases including MS.

This treatment and its positive results changed Julie's view of life and allowed her to choose and prioritize her areas of practice. It shifted not only her outlook on life, but the direction that her passion took her in terms of helping others. The transition from family law to healthcare and disability law drove her newfound understanding for the need to address the frustration of patients when dealing with the healthcare and insurance systems.
